She drank from puddles and slept in caves. The 26-year-old's "adventure of a lifetime" turned into a horror movie.
The tragic incident occurred on the Mouroubra highway in Australia's Wheatbelt region, approximately 400 km northeast of Perth. Investigators determined that the 26-year-old woman from Castrop-Rauxel in the Ruhr Valley, Germany, was driving alone when her Mitsubishi became stuck. Panicked, Carolina abandoned the car and drove off in an unknown direction. She had no supplies or a map with her, and she became disoriented.

She slept in caves and drank from puddles.Carolina walked approximately 24 km through thorny bushes and the Australian wilderness. At night, she slept in caves to protect herself from the cold, and her only drink was water from puddles she encountered. She was dehydrated, emaciated, and—as her rescuer reported—completely lost. She didn't even know what day of the week it was.
"She had no shoes on, her foot was bandaged. I can't believe she survived that," farmer Tania, who was returning from Beacon with her trailer, told ABC News. Almost no one lives nearby. She was lucky she was passing through at the time.

She recognized the missing woman and stopped the car.The farmer spotted Karolina on Friday, July 11, around 4:20 PM, about 40 km from her farm. She was standing by the road near the town of Bimbijy, waving frantically. Tania immediately recognized her as the missing woman reported in Australian media. "She was exhausted, thin, and lost. The first thing she wanted to do was call her mother," the woman recalls.
She was taken to the hospital. "It's a miracle she's alive."After being found, Carolina was flown by helicopter to Fiona Stanley Hospital in Murdoch, Perth. She spent the night there and remains under medical care. A hospital spokeswoman said the 26-year-old was shaken but not in a life-threatening condition.
Australian police say it's a miracle Carolina survived. "She was at the point where she had given up hope that anyone would find her," said Inspector Jessica Securo. "She was incredibly lucky."
